selfportrait_sml.jpg  Dany Weus

"In art, as in life, I want to be daring, to take risks, to progress..."

"To find a new way to apply paint to canvas" - that was the goal of French-Australian artist, Dany Weus, after watching a film about the life of the celebrated American painter, Jackson Pollock, known for his "dripping" technique.

Mr Weus set out to develop a technique that allowed him "to be in the zone" of creativity - to express himself freely, spontaneously, with daring.  The results can be seen in his paintings - but his technique remains a secret - "for the moment."

A descendant of the Captain Corsairs of Dunkirk, Mr Weus spends his time between France and Australia where, in 1999, he gained national recognition as a finalist in the prestigious Wynne Prize for Landscapes at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney.

Recently, in France, he has twice been selected by the French National Society of Fine Arts to exhibit at its annual Salon (SNBA) at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris (in 2012 and again in 2013).  He has also been slected to exhibit at the 2013 "Artistes du Monde" international exhibition of contemporary art in Cannes.  All works selected for this exhibition must be approved by the patron, Marina Picasso, grand-daughter of the famous artist, Pablo Picasso.

Artist, reporter-photographer, and adventurer, Dany Weus has always followed his dreams - searching for gold in the wilds of north Australia, sailing around the world on his own 11-metre yacht, working for newspapers in Australia and Tahiti and, for more than 20 years, following his passion for painting.

After years of painting figurative works, Dany's quest to develop his own distinctive artistic style literally drove him to abstraction... and led to the discovery of his special technique to apply paint to canvas.

"The more I painted figurative works, the more I wanted to break away and just lose myself in the intensity of the creative process.  I want to be in the zone when I am painting so that my work is spontaneous and genuinely reflects what I am feeling at the time.  The technique I have developed allows me to control the flow of the paint while achieving the movement and spontaneity I am looking for in my paintings."

Dany is represented by the Com2Art International Association for Fine Arts.
